The rough guide to child modelling

Model kids online aren’t a model agency, so we won’t get involved with your fee negotiations etc. So we decided to give you a rough guide to child modelling to help you, and of course we are always on hand to help, so feel free to ask questions or if you feel unsure about anything. Remember we will pass details to you from interested clients to avoid bogus appointments.

How much should I charge?

It depends on the client, the area and the project etc, but as a rough guide you can expect to charge the following for modelling projects

0 - 4yrs between £40-50 per hour or £250 a day
Auditions £18-20 plus 20%
Fittings between £20-25

For television modelling the pricing is slightly different. Again this is a guide and you should negotiate with the client again taking into consideration the project, coverage location etc

0 - 4yrs £150-170 a day
Chaperone £50-70
Recall £40-50
Wardrobe £ 40-50
Extra - anything between £70 and £100

If a client cancels you should expect 24 hours notice, failing that you should expect to receive a cancellation fee.

Points to remember

Children who catch a clients eye are those who are happy, bright, confident, have clear skin and bright eyes. Every child is unique, and it’s all in the eye of the beholder. The client may not necessarily be looking for a ‘pretty’ or ‘cute’ child, a great attitude goes a long way, and your child may be just the child they are looking for to advertise their product.

Your child must be confident meeting lots of new people. The client may have a strict time schedule to keep to, and your child must be happy and confident to take part. If they are shy it may be best to wait until they are a little older and more sociable. Temper tantrums, bad manners and sulkiness aren’t well tolerated by many clients so just bear this in mind.

ALBA recommend that parents and guardians adhere to the laws on child licensing which states that any child under school leaving age and in full time education must be licensed to work in modelling and entertainment.

Be prepared for rejection. If you are called for a casting, this isn’t a guaranteed modelling assignment, both you and your child must be prepared for rejection, and you must not take this personally. Be prepared for lots of waiting and hanging around, and whilst this can be frustrating, clients will not tolerate pushy or bolshy parents.

It may be an idea to take snacks, drinks and something small to entertain your child, as these things may not be readily available. When speaking with the client it may be best to clarify what will and won’t be available to you.
